Effective Tour Pages: Trends and Showcase
Aug 23, 2010 General, Inspiration, Resources, Tutorials
I was recently working on the tour page for Vandelay Premier and doing some research on other tour pages to gather inspiration. I decided to put this post together because it is a topic that can have a great deal of impact on the success of a web app or web business. Looking at the analytics data shortly after launching Vandelay Premier it was obvious that the tour page will have an incredibly significant impact on the success of the site. When visitors arrive at a site that they are not familiar with the tour page is very inviting since it promises to help them get acquainted with the site very quickly.

Getting To Grips With InDesign Part 1: Document Basics & Master Pages

InDesign is a powerful software application created by Adobe, the same creators of Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks and various other creative applications. It is one of the industry standard applications used to create (or more likely “ put together “) print documents, such as magazines and books. It can be used to produce print products from scratch, but is actually designed to import your already created graphics from other software such as Photoshop and Illustrator. As well as multipage documents, it can also be used to create one-page documents, such as flyers and posters, however it isn’t used much for this purpose as both Photoshop and Illustrator are capable of this without having to export and import your graphics.

So many articles explain how to design interfaces, design graphics and deal with clients. But one step in the Web development process is often skipped over or forgotten altogether: content planning . Sometimes called information architecture, or IA planning, this step doesn’t find a home easily in many people’s workflow. But rushing on to programming and pushing pixels makes for content that looks shoehorned rather than fully integrated and will only require late-game revisions.

Website Accessibility and Usability: Ten Tips On How To Make Your Website More Viewer-friendly!
Oct 20, 2009 General, Inspiration, Resources, Tutorials
Most websites are developed with the sole purpose of spreading information about a product or service in mind. However the different viewer scenarios are not normally envisioned and it is assumed that all the site’s visitors have perfect physical or cognitive ability and fast computers with broadband connections to the internet. Statistics show that on average most internet users have some form of disability or disadvantage that hinders them from accessing web content as it was intended. In 1997, the World Wide Web Consortium, the non-profit organization in charge of the internet, established the Web Accessibility Initiative that set guidelines for web developers to adhere to so as to ensure accessibility to all users.
