Most websites are developed with the sole purpose of spreading information about a product or service in mind. However the different viewer scenarios are not normally envisioned and it is assumed that all the site’s visitors have perfect physical or cognitive ability and fast computers with broadband connections to the internet. Statistics show that on average most internet users have some form of disability or disadvantage that hinders them from accessing web content as it was intended. In 1997, the World Wide Web Consortium, the non-profit organization in charge of the internet, established the Web Accessibility Initiative that set guidelines for web developers to adhere to so as to ensure accessibility to all users.
